Gaia and Uranus ruled the world first, and then Kronos and Rhea, and finally, Zeus and Hera.
Pandora was the first human, and from her came countless others. They spread out across the globe, and the worship of their gods went with them. The Greeks would allow for no others. They had created the first woman, and all of her descendants would pay homage to them whether they liked it or not.
Over the years, humanity evolved. Their civilizations grew. They became wiser. But even so, they held their gods close. Without them, they would have nothing. Empires rose and fell but the gods were a constant. They were what kept the seams of life from fraying.
By the 1600’s, most of the gods had ventured to America. They made the New World their home, and their followers established new temples and places or worship. Wars were still fought in the name of religion, but who they were fought for varies. Zeus, Ares, Athena, Hera… Bloodshed is practically the human condition, after all.
The gods have always been very hands on, mingling and socializing with mortals. Zeus, especially, has been known to take an interest in humans. For the majority, Zeus deciding to pay you extra attention tends to incite one of two emotions. You are either ecstatic. Or you are terrified. Many women have fallen victim to the King of the Gods, and have given birth to his half-divine children against their will.
On June 1st of 2012, Zeus vanished.
He simply disappeared.
Nobody (besides those responsible) knows what happened. They have their suspicions, but none of their suspicions can be proven.
With Zeus gone, the gods fought. They needed a new king. Hera wasn’t enough.
Before they could tear the world apart, Kronos and Rhea stepped in. They took their thrones back, and became rulers of the world once again. The Olympians were permitted to keep their titles and their places on Mount Olympus. Many did. Some didn’t.
The world is changing. Kronos and Rhea wish to bring back the Golden Age. Humanity is prospering under their rule, and the world as a whole is looking a lot better. Gaia becomes more powerful without pollution. Food now grows in abundance, and clean water flows for all who need it.
Unfortunately, not all the gods are happy with a world that might one day be perfect. They crave war and bloodshed and suffering, and they will fight for it if they have to.
